Reiki (pronounced ray-key)		  
Reiki is an ancient form of hands on healing. Its origin dating back many thousands of years to the time before Christ & Buddha. It was rediscovered in the 1800’s by Dr. Mikao Usui a theologian, Dr. Usui developed this healing system from ancient Buddhist teachings after many years of study, research and meditation.
Reiki is a Japanese word which means Universal Life Force Energy. Rei means universal knowledge, present everywhere, Ki is the energy that gives life to all living things and which can be activated for the purpose of healing. Ki is also known as Chi, Prana and Spirit, according to different cultures. 		 

How Reiki Works		  
The Reiki healer acts as a channel for this life energy which the recipient of the treatment draws via the healer, activating the body’s natural ability to heal itself. Reiki goes to wherever it is needed working on mind, body and spirit, releasing blocked energies, cleansing the body of toxins and working to create a state of balance. Reiki can also be used on animals, plants, food, you can send Reiki to an event or situation, past or present, it can be sent to someone over a distance (absent healing).  

The Treatment 		 
The Treatment of Reiki is a very simple yet powerful process. Treatments and frequency are individually tailored to the clients needs and condition. Most treatments last about an hour, which is carried out on a healing couch or a chair. The client remains fully clothed whilst the therapist works on various positions on the body. The client and/or the therapist may experience sensations such as warmth or coldness, tingling, twitches and relaxation as the body receives the life force energy and blockages are removed.  

Reiki Attunements 		 
The gift of Reiki can be obtained in 2 days. 1st degree Students attending the course will be initiated, or attuned, to the energy by a Reiki master. The four attunements (2 each day) will open the healing channel within you. This brings a raised level of conscious awareness after which the Reiki energy can be channelled. You will be taught a sequence of hand positions for treating oneself, friends, family, pets and plants.
2nd degree Reiki is for those who wish to make more of a commitment to the energy, to become a praticioner. This involves the learning of three sacred symbols, which activate more power, the ability to do distant (absent) healing and to heal emotional and mental issues.
3rd degree or the Master level is only for those who wish to increase the power further, to receive the heart attunements and to train and attune Reiki students. It requires a lot of dedication to Reiki and a desire to continue learning the healing experience.
