Many
people are touched by America's sentiments and patriotism as they react
to the terrorism of 11.09.2001. As a non-American I am equally shocked and
disgusted by the terrorism, which your country experienced last week for
the first time. IRA terrorists and the odd extremist uni-bomber often bomb
London. No 'peoples' are safe from terrorism, as you have found out. Terrorism
does not dignify a response - in any situation!
The significance of an attack on the World Trade Centre is truly Global,
affecting the whole of our planet. In Europe last Thursday at 11am 800 million
of us stood in silence for 3 minutes to pray for world peace and honour
those who died on the 11th. We celebrate their lives and the great sacrifice
that they made to raise the awareness of us all, may they rest in peace.
For the first time in the history of the world, humanity stands together
for PEACE. I pray that our world leaders do not react and kill more innocent
lives as an act of revenge.
Many people are disgusted at Bush's' "dead or alive" cowboy mentality, and
a more pronounced Texan accent - this may be helping America to grieve,
but surely a revenge attack is not the answer. I would appeal to the responsibility
of the TV, Film & Comic Industries/Celebrities/Advertising/ the Media/the
WWW, and the Arts in general to promote PEACE, rather than the fear and
violence, which surrounds us in the media. In your position you have an
opportunity to promote UNITY rather than fear. Society has promoted, an
attack like this, the film industry promotes the Armageddon style films
that the public crave and aspire to, not to mention 'Fight Club' - remember
the last scene?
I wish all of humanity luck and peace for the future. I hope that positive
arts projects and all fund raising activities are done in the name of PEACE
to raise a lot of money and more importantly the awareness of us all. Encouraging
individuals to live in peace, and to never again celebrate violence and
evil. Perhaps we could focus on the positive outcome of acts of kindness
rather than rejoicing in the acts of evil which can be found all around
us in the propaganda of the Media and therefore within our everyday lives.
- Perhaps it's time to GROW UP, dismiss the past as a lesson learnt and
never to be repeated, become warriors for peace fighting fear - might help
sales - this is the 21st Century - set the standard, break the pattern,
evolve and really do something to raise awareness and consciousness of us
all. The world is a dark enough place already, lets concentrate on a little
light! |
